Donna C is a line of semi precious gemstones, freshwater pearls and unique geodes. Donna uses techniques such as handknotting on silk, wire wrapping and silversmithing. She hand picks the most unique gems and turns them into a wearable work of art. Each piece is a different as the owner. Some pieces are bold, while others are more simple or subtle. Donna C can be found at various art shows up and down the East Coast. She believes that handmade jewelry is the perfect gift as no two pieces are alike.
I love stones and always have. Growing up, I collected all sorts – smooth, tumbled stones from the local Five & Dime, black and white beach rocks that wash up on Nauset Beach, river stones, silver flaky mica found in the hills of Maine... I'm inspired by different shapes, shades, textures, and facets. My designs are inspired by the simplest things – what I call the “minutiae of everyday life” – the changing light on the marsh throughout the day and into the evening, the ever-shifting colors of the ocean, the spring-to-fall garden blooms. Sometimes, it’s merely a feeling that sparks a design concept. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, and hand made. The materials are top quality and include precious and semi-precious gemstones, pearls, shell, wood, leather and suede, silk cord, sterling and Thai Hill Tribes silver, gold, and 14kt gold fill. I seek out stones that are unique in shape or cut and especially enjoy using uncommon or rare stones including Tanzanite, a violet blue stone found only in Tanzania, Africa, blue and white Larimar (the Caribbean Stone) found only in the Dominican Republic, Imperial teal kyanite, rich purple and black Russian Charoite, and vivid green Chrome Diopside. It is truly a joy for me to create pieces I can imagine someone wearing for a special event, giving to a loved one, or just enjoying it as that piece that “goes perfect with jeans.”
C-Breeze Treasures was created and founded by Annie Cochran in 2010. Annie is a local, self-taught, beaded jewelry designer, creator and recently a “newbie” potter! She hand-forms and hand-carves her own pottery beads, pendants and small dishes and fires them in a small kiln in her home studio. Annie is the Solopreneur of the business, which means she wears All the hats of runner her full-time business. Her passion is to create, and her Treasures are inspired as she says, “By the Beauty that is Cape Cod”!
I’ve had a life long fascination with making. I was taught to knit and crochet at the age of 8 by my Lithuanian grandmother. She taught me that my hands could do anything. Through the years I became a spinner, sold my handspun yarn, became a weaver, apprenticed with a Shaker basket maker and designed elaborate patterns for hand knit socks. My hands have never been idle. A few years ago, I found paper. My daughter designed custom wrapping papers and when playing around with a scrap I just hand rolled it into a primitive bead. Within a year I was making my own paper, pressing it, drying and dyeing it. I created the most fabulous one-of-a- kind beads. 5 years ago, I came down to breakfast and found my husband had left an empty Cheerios box on the kitchen counter. My brain exploded. By noon, anything in my house that was in a cardboard box was now in a zip lock baggie and he found me sitting on the floor cutting up strips from those boxes like a woman possessed. Cape Cod Paper Bead Company happened that day. I make each and every one of my beads. Each bead is individually hand rolled using discarded product packaging which is normally thrown away......think cereal boxes, cracker boxes, soda and juice can boxes, food and household packaging and personal care products. If it comes in a box, I can make a bead out of it! All my raw materials are given to me by neighbors, friends and customers. I often find bags and boxes of recycling on my door step each morning. I like to think of myself as a recycling recycler! I purchase nothing in creating my beads. Ultimate recycling! Each bead is cut, hand rolled and then dipped 10 times in my “secret sauce” to seal, preserve and protect it. Once dry, I create a one-of-a-kind, trash to treasure, unique piece of jewelry. It’s crazy how stylish, colorful and beautiful these small creations are! I look forward to seeing you this season at the Cottages!
