With the love of chocolate and a loan, we started The Chocolate Sparrow, a simple candy shop, in 1989 in North Eastham. Gradually we learned the art of making fine chocolate and the business of selling it. In 1991 we opened a summer shop in Wellfleet. Two years later in Orleans, we opened The Hot Chocolate Sparrow, a cafe complete with coffee from around the world, desserts of every indulgence, and our own hand-dipped chocolates. Here we could offer specialty coffee drinks in a sophisticated but welcoming atmosphere. We have grown into a local institution, open early morning to late night, every day of the year except Christmas.
We created a place where people can connect. Our cafe is recognized Cape-wide, our chocolate is sent all over the country, and our coffee, desserts, and fudge have been voted #1 numerous times in various local surveys.
No wonder we are recognized as "The Best on the Lower Cape."
My name is Lisa Whelan and I am Owner/Operator for The Food Truck Cape Cod as well as Dancing Spoons Chef Services.
I am from Wellfleet, but spent many years mostly out west and returning full time to the Cape in 1994. Over the years I have owned and operated 5 food and beverage businesses here and most recently opened a food truck.
I have always enjoyed cooking for people and even before I opened anything, was having orphan Thanksgiving, Christmas, Birthday meals for friends and family. For me, cooking and sharing food brings a sense of community and helps to nurture the parts of us that want to be included in something that can be enjoyed by many.
A little over a year ago, I opened The Food Truck Cape Cod, serving Seasonal Comfort Food. The Food Truck Cape Cod is also available for private events.
Farmers, Community, Artisans, and Education. Celebrating 27 years! Located at the Orleans Market Square next to the Artist Cottages. Open Saturdays.
"I'm a native Cape Codder, grew up in Orleans and moved back last year for a travel nursing position. I have been hobby baking for about 15 years while working as a RN. A few years ago I worked as a nurse, living overseas. While living in Paris I really fell in love with French patisserie but also how they use flavors. It's been a dream of mine to bake full time and tie in the cultural influences from where I've lived/traveled! That is how Little Beach Baker came about! I'm a custom residential baker and I love making custom sugar cookies, cakes and other sweets for your special occasion! I look forward to seeing you this summer!"
